“2017 is being celebrated as the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha movement. In 1917, Gandhi had arrived at Motihari to protest against the exploitation faced by the Indigo farmers. Here he launched the first Satyagraha movement on Indian soil. But Motihari is not only the birthplace of Gandhi’s Satyagraha. Fourteen years prior to his arrival was born here the author of Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. This 30 minute movie not only depicts the condition of the newly renovated house of the “millennium writer”, but it also shows the social attitude in relation with Gandhi and Orwell. The film is in Hindi with English subtitles.
“This documentary has been produced by Dr. Lambodar Mookherjee Foundation & Rotary Motihari Lake Town. The film was made available on Youtube June 25, 2017, i.e, the 114th anniversary of the birth of George Orwell.”
